"He had our heart from Day One.  He's a blessing to our family"

- Mom & Dadt

meet the brods

Jason and Lauren went for their routine 20 week anatomy appointment and received some heartbreaking news. They were informed their baby only had one ventricle, essentially half a heart. Upon an echocardiogram of his heart to learn more in depth about his anatomy, they discovered a combination of defects that is typically associated with DiGeorge Syndrome. DiGeorge is a deletion of the 22 chromosome that causes abnormalities in the development of major organs and their function.

They named him Canaan Pax, a namesake to claim God's promises and peace over his life and theirs.

Baby Canaan’s heart is complicated and will need 2-3 open heart surgeries before he is two years old, two of which will likely be in the first six months of life, alongside other smaller catheterization procedures. As of now, his cardiology team is planning steps to address:

  • malposed great arteries (criss cross heart)

  • ventricle septal defect

  • pulmonary stenosis

  • right aortic arch

  • double outlet right ventricle

He will go straight to the level four NICU when he’s born where they will do an echocardiogram to get a better look at his heart before making decisions on next steps as well as an MRI to follow up on fluid they found on his brain. The Brod family has been told to prepare for at least 4-6 weeks in the hospital pending no complications.

As they pray fervently for God to heal and a miracle to be seen, they are still met with the reality of today both in circumstance and finances, and are wading through that the best they can. But they need our help…with two other small kids, they need us to come alongside them any way we can.
